Milone Nurseries donates heart and passion to the cultivation of certified plants, carefully following the entire path for the production of certified citrus plants with national voluntary certification.
This kind of pathway is coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Agribusiness and Forestry in consultation with the Regional Phytosanitary Service and requires specific attentions at every stage, from the choice of substrates and containers to the labeling of plants with labels-certificates that demonstrate the quality achieved.
Why choose a certified plant? Because there is a double guarantee on genetic match and phytosanitary status.
Italy is among the leading Mediterranean countries in citrus production,
with an important role of Calabria and Sicily in the market.

Below are the rootstocks for certified citrus plants available from Milone Nurseries in Lamezia Terme:
It is the historic rootstock, characterized by a deep and expansive root system. It offers excellent cold hardiness and tolerates lime soils well, but is extremely susceptible to virus of the Tristeza (CTV). In light of the latter characteristic and the availability of other rootstocks, it is poorly recommended and has become little used.
Very vigorous rootstock that imparts rapid growth and high productivity. It has very good resistance to active limestone and medium tolerance to salinity, but negatively affects the organoleptic quality of the fruit in some varieties.
Widely used, mainly for lemon, due to its high vigor and ability to induce rapid and abundant production, although it negatively affects organoleptic quality. It tolerates calcareous and saline soils well, but is sensitive to cold and Tristeza.
(Citrus latipes x Poncirus trifoliata): A hybrid established by CREA-OFA in Acireale, characterized by high vigor and excellent production efficiency. It is resistant to the Tristeza (CTV) and to the Phytophthora. It has a fair tolerance to active limestone, superior to common Citrange and provides fruit of good size and organoleptic quality.
Hybrid (Mandarin Cleopatra x Poncirus trifoliata) very versatile. It is resistant to the Tristeza and tolerates active limestone, salinity and waterlogging better than Carrizo.
Dwarfing variant that allows higher planting densities. It maintains good tolerance to active limescale and provides good fruit size.
(Citrus latipes x Poncirus trifoliata): Brother of F6P12, it is distinguished by high vigor. It is a new rootstock, still under observation with respect to other characteristics.
Grapefruit hybrid and Poncirus trifoliata, extremely vigorous. This is a rootstock that is notable for imparting excellent production efficiency, high fruit quality and naturally reduces its pre-harvest sagging. It prefers well-drained soils and is particularly sensitive to active lime.
One of the most popular for resistance to the Tristeza and to the Phytophthora. It confers good vigor and excellent fruit quality, but it fears calcareous soils.
Less vigorous than Carrizo, it is valued for its greater tolerance to nematodes and good production efficiency even in slightly narrower sizing.
A recent rootstock that induces low to medium vigor, ideal for plantings with narrower rootstocks. It offers very good active scale tolerance compared to other rootstocks and excellent fruit quality.
Very similar to Carrizo in terms of agronomic characteristics and resistance, it is slightly more sensitive to tired soils but provides consistent and good quality production.
Deciduous-leaf rootstock that imparts greater resistance to cold. It is of medium vigor and induces excellent fruit quality, but is totally intolerant to active limescale.
"Monstrous" variety characterized by twisted branches and hooked thorns. It is the absolute most dwarfing rootstock among those we offer, ideal for growing in pots or intensive plantings, maintaining high fruit quality and good cold resistance.
At Milone Nurseries, quality starts from the source. We handle every stage of production in-house: from the selection of rootstocks and certified propagation material to the growth of the finished plant. Managing the entire production cycle allows us to guarantee healthy, vigorous and genetically pure citrus fruits, ready to give birth to plants of excellence.
